Project Milan ('we', 'us', or 'our') is committed to protecting your privacy. This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, and share information when you use our website and mobile application.

1. Information We Collect

We collect information you provide directly to us, such as when you create an account, complete your profile, or verify your identity. For dating, this includes your name, email, phone number, photos, gender, date of birth, interests, and preferences. For Chautari, our community world, we collect your community identity and activity, including your handle, an optional community avatar, the communities you join, your posts, comments, reactions, event participation, and community messages. We collect your date of birth to confirm you are 18 or older even if you use communities only. For identity verification, we may collect government-issued ID data which is handled with extreme security and deleted after verification.

2. Your Dating and Community Identities

Milan has two worlds in one app: dating and community (Chautari). You use them with a single account, but you have two separate identities. Your dating identity is your real profile, including your name and photos, and is shown in Discover, matches, and dating messages. Your community identity is a pseudonymous handle (a username like @night_owl) and an optional avatar, and is shown only in Chautari. We keep these identities separate: other members cannot tell that a dating profile and a community handle belong to the same person, your community activity is not linked to your real dating profile for other users, and blocking is handled separately in each world. You choose whether to use dating, community, or both, and you can turn a world on or off at any time. Please note one important exception: because both experiences run on one Milan account, our team, and only our team, can connect your two identities when necessary to keep people safe, enforce our Terms, or comply with the law.

3. Phone Number Usage

Your phone number is collected only if you choose to authenticate via phone. By entering your mobile number, you will receive a one-time SMS message with a verification code to complete your registration or login. Message and data rates may apply. This is for authentication purposes only. No mobile information will be shared with third parties or affiliates for marketing or promotional purposes. We do not use your phone number for promotional messages, advertisements, or marketing of any kind. We will never send SMS messages beyond what is required for account verification.

4. Email Usage

Your email address is collected only if you choose to authenticate via email. We use it to verify your identity and to send transactional emails related to your account (such as password resets, security alerts, and account notifications). We will only send first-party product news and updates if you explicitly opt in through your account settings. We do not send promotional or advertising emails unless you have given your consent, and you can opt out at any time.

5. How We Use Information

We use your information to provide and improve our services, including matching you with compatible people for dating, facilitating dating and community messages, powering Chautari communities and the content you share in them, and ensuring safety through moderation. We do not sell, rent, or share your personal information with third parties for their marketing purposes.

6. Content Moderation

To keep Project Milan safe and respectful, we review publicly visible content, such as profile photos, biographies, and other information you display on your public profile, as well as content you post in Chautari communities (community posts, comments, photos, and the names and descriptions of communities you create), using a combination of automated systems and trained personnel. We do not monitor or read your private messages or one-on-one conversations. Publicly visible content that violates our Terms of Service, including nudity, sexually explicit material, sexual solicitation, or content promoting prostitution, may be removed. Where necessary to enforce our policies, protect our users, or comply with applicable law, we may retain limited records of violations, including the relevant content and associated account information. Accounts found in violation may be suspended or permanently banned.

7. Chautari Communities and Public Content

Milan includes Chautari, our community world, where you take part under a pseudonymous handle and optional avatar rather than your real dating profile. Content you post in a community, including posts, comments, photos, and event participation, is visible to other members of that community, and, for public communities, may be visible to anyone using Milan. Basic information about public and shareable-by-link communities, such as the community's name, description, cover image, and member count, may also be shown on public preview pages when a community link is shared outside the app. Community direct messages between members are private; as with dating conversations, we do not monitor or read them, and you can only receive messages from members who share a community with you, which you can further limit in your settings. Please share only what you are comfortable with others seeing, and do not post personal information you wish to keep private. Community owners and administrators can see member activity within their communities and may moderate content and membership.

8. Data Storage and Security

Your personal information, including phone numbers and email addresses, is stored securely using industry-standard encryption and security practices. Access to user data is strictly limited to authorized personnel and automated systems necessary for service operation.

9. Data Retention

We retain your personal data only as long as necessary. Profile photos used for identity verification are typically deleted within 30 days of the verification process completion. You can delete your account at any time, which will remove your profile and conversations from our active databases. Content you have shared in communities may remain visible to other members after you leave a community or delete your account, consistent with our Terms.
